Printing at the Block Print or Printing with Wood Tampon is a manual printing technique, an ancestral know-how of Rajasthan in northern India.
It all starts with a pattern drawn on a sheet of paper, the drawing is then engraved by hand on a block of wood. A stamp is finally made from this block.
The printing is then made by successive colored layers, some patterns may require more than ten printing layers.
For each layer, the stamp is soaked in the ink and applied by high pressure on the support.
The fabrics are then washed by hand in large basins thus making several baths to fix the vegetable colors.
They are dried in the sun in the open air on the ground or on the dwelling terraces and then ironed. Each step in this printing process is entirely carried out by hand. Each piece of fabric is unique. These fabrics are "alive", they skate in the son of time. The irregularities and shades of colors of these prints make all their charm.
